Embodied Robots Move Toward Value Realization at Beijing Events
What happened
At the 2026 World Robot Conference in Beijing, more than 300 companies displayed over 3,000 products, with exhibits focused on real-world tasks such as parcel sorting, supermarket restocking, industrial stacking, and home services. Dexterous hands with high-precision tactile sensing were a highlight, able to identify object softness, hardness, and weight, and perform fine tasks like cap assembly. The central enterprise exhibition area, featuring 48 firms and 263 exhibits, marked the first collective participation by central state-owned enterprises.
The 2nd World Humanoid Robot Games, held at the 'Ice Ribbon,' drew 666 teams and 2,056 robots from 16 countries, competing in 51 events and 1,301 matches. New events included table tennis, long jump, weightlifting, and tug-of-war, alongside 21 scenario competitions covering industry, hotels, homes, and logistics. The event released the world's first world-class full dataset for humanoid robot games, made freely available.
Despite progress, Unitree founder Wang Xingxing cautions that embodied intelligence has not yet reached a 'ChatGPT moment.' He defines that tipping point as robots completing about 80% of tasks in 80% unfamiliar scenarios via voice or text commands, which he estimates could arrive in 2–3 years or within 5–10 years. Quadruped robots, however, are already being deployed for inspections, with Zhishen Technology showcasing a load-to-weight ratio of 7:1.
